BSEditor, This venerable keyboard utility was introduced as WinKey in 1992, in the days of Windows 3.0 and 3.1 to control keyboard CapsLock and NumLock keys. A new version, designed for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and other recent versions of Windows is now available for your evaluation. The product has been renamed WinKB to avoid confusion with other software packages.
WinKB does many things, but the number one reason people use this utility is to get rid of the irritating CapsLock behavior that IBM incorporated into PC keyboards. In their rush to market with the first PC, IBM failed to copy the behavior of the Selectric keyboard, where striking the Shift key turned off CapsLock, because you no longer needed it. WinKB restores the old keyboard functionality that you miss every day. Optionally, you may only turn off the CapsLock with the combination of a Shift and an alphabetic character. This allows you to insert characters such as underscores while leaving the CapsLock active.
WinKB's Lock control capabilities are loved by spreadsheet users and others who make use of the numeric pad and ScrollLock features. You can specify whether these locks (and of course CapsLock, too) are initially active when you log in.
