The function might be quite simple, like multiply the inputs together, or more complex, such as displace the surface a specified amount along a specified vector.  A shader, then, can be built by connecting together the inputs and outputs of different blocks. Once this is done, Shrimp will write the neccessary shader code and can call the compiler and renderer to preview it. The generated code should work with any Renderman compliant renderer such as BMRT or Aqsis.  Shrimp is still in development, but it can still be used to create shaders. The current task is to extend the range of building blocks neccessary to create all kinds of shaders. This is on going work, but if you would like to contribute any blocks you've written send them to me.  The User Interface  is all specified in a number of xml files. Komadu is a freeware tool that is developed to easily create UIs and scripts for Maya, using the Maya embedded language (MEL). Creating UIs can be a time consuming task using just the script editor in Maya. But with Komadu you can create UIs add behaviors and deploy that in to Maya and execute from there.  How does it work ?  Komadu woks with some scripts that work along with Maya and the main program. In the main program the user creates a project and creates procedures. Unlike other MEL scripting software, Komadu treat each script as a procedure that way the user wont confuse with duplicated names. When generating UIs the user can use the main toolbar to create controls. After the designing and programming is complete Komadu deploys all the files required to run the project in to Maya. Chalana is a freeware program which you can use to convert AMC and ASF file to MEL so you can import the motion capture data into Maya.  How does it work ?  Chalana works by using the Biomichanics inc's AMC to MEL and ASF to MOV executables which you can download for free at CMU Graphics Lab motion capture database. Chalana also includes the same programs in the application directory.  With Chalana you can convert the MEL files generated by the above programs in to your Maya projects frame rate and/or grid scale.  For whom ?  Chalana can be used by Anyone who wishes to insert motion capture data to their animation. Especially for game developers and crowd animators. How do I use it ?  1. Simple !. Open Chalana.  2. You need to have an AMC file and the corresponding ASF file to generate the MEL file. (You can get such files at CMU motion Lab). Click the button next to the AMC file text box. Load you AMC file.   3. If the ASF file was also at the same location it will be automatically loaded. Or else Load the ASF file manually.   4. Click &quot;generate MOV and MEL files&quot; buttons.   5. It will take a few seconds for the MEL file generation to complete.  6. After the MEL script has been loaded select the Measure unit and frame unit from the combo boxes to the right and click convert and send to Maya. This step will convert the MEL file and send it to Maya so you can execute it from the shelf.   7. If you have Maya opened, from the shelf look for the Chalana tab and click load skeleton button. (These procedures require you to install the shelf for Maya).   8. Now you can bind the skeleton or do anything you want. If you're ready to import the animation click the Create Keys button next. Problems: A: Final gathering does not create specular highlights. B: A very low reflection to fake the specular does not create shadows and &quot;blurred&quot; highlights take a lot of time to render with reflection raytracing. C: Some scripts that exists to create a light rig need a lot of lights to get a nice result, the lights are aligned on some kind of grid, they have a fixed distance, not taken into account that there are dark and bright areas.  I choosed to optimize C.   What is BA_LightDome: LightDome is a standalone application that reads HDRI light probe images and creates a light rig from that image. The idea behind BA_LightDome is to analyse the picture and create only lights if it is necessary. It starts with about 650 light points on the image and reduces them to less than 75. Then it exports all lights in a script file. You have to load and execute that script file into your 3D Application (At the moment only XSI is supported, but if anyone would like to write a simple script example of his prefered 3d software, I could implement this script language). It creates area lights with shadow and the bright lights with specularity enabled. After you have loaded it into your 3D application you can fine-tune the intensity, saturation, distance to origin... These points are joined together to create the faces of the mesh. Features: Create Faces  Faces are created by selecting 3 points in order. The order of points determines the orienation of the face (facing towards or away from the user). Faces can optionally have textures applied. Export to OBJ or Direct-X  Optomodel is a digitising tool, not a 3D editor. The mesh can exported to another package to see how it looks in 3D. Use Layers for Points and Faces  Optomodel uses point layers and face layers. Point layers are handy when digitising 3D points. Face layers are handy when applying textures to faces. Support for many different cameras  Each model of camera has its own pixel count and distortion. The system contains a camera file creation tool so that anyone can create a camera file. Selected files are available for download fom the web site. Scaling / Translations  All 3D points in the mesh can be scaled up or down. Translations are a means of changing the origin (x,y,z) of the mesh. Mirrors  Many objects are symmetrical. Mirrors can be applied along the x, y or z axis. Any changes on one side are automatically applied to the other side. Mirrors can be optionally turned on or off when exporting. Texture Mapping  The texture map system in Optomodel is unique in that actual photos from the same camera can be used to map onto the mesh. In other systems, points need to be moved around to fit the texture when the texture has distortion (e.g. a brick wall shows up barrel distortion). Optomodel knows the distortion and maps the distorted mesh to the distorted image.
