It uses the "NET SEND" command (Messenger Service), you can thus send messages to anyone, even if they don't have QuickMessenger.
QuickMessenger can also Capture messages received by the "NET SEND" command (Messenger Service Window) in order to display incoming messages and you can then reply to your Sender.
QuickMessenger is free, do not hesitate to distribute it!
