It is a very common practice to download movies and/or series with the intention of watching them and in many cases with subtitles, but lets say we are tired of Windows' default media player (Windows Media Player) and we also would like it to be a little faster. Maybe we love other media players either paid or free, but its ability to play videos is not as powerful as we like it to be. If we mix all this for a while, we get The KMPlayer, a media player which is clearly intended for video, but is not bad with audio at all and supports a lot of formats. In this article I'm going to tell you about this free player, its features and most interesting details.
All One Can Ask From A Media Player
The KMPlayer is a great alternative to existing media players, mainly by highlighting its enormous versatility, ease of operation and exceptional performance. Regarding this last aspect and its relation with resources consumption (something that really makes the difference), I can tell you that The KMPlayer is for sure a light player, which gives it an advantage over other classics players, its reduced RAM consumption reaches a maximum of around 20MB even when playing a movie from a DVD, anyway it offers the same performance with both audio and video
Despite is low resources consumption, The KMPlayer has a really nice default interface, however it can give us the look we want thanks to its support for skins. We can use one of the many predefined skins available in its official site or we can make one of our own by means of the skin creator.
When it comes to manage our media files, The KMPlayer can maintain various multimedia libraries and albums. This interesting feature starts with the program's first start and allows us to crate visual albums with thumbnails of our favorite videos.
We can also set up playlists through its Playlist Editor.
Another really awesome possibility is that it enables us to capture audio and video clips with a really wide variety of options and modes, something really unusual that makes it stand out against other players.
The KMPlayer includes as default the majority of codecs which is a big advantage because this fact to plays almost any video without the inconvenience of having to look for every single codec. Another advantage is that it allows us to play AVI format videos that are damaged or not completely downloaded. We can also play files that are compressed in ZIP or RAR format.
Please, Surprise Me!
But if I really have to tell you which is the feature of The KMPlayer that surprised me most, is that it allows us to play multiple videos at once, yes, really no kidding! the famous "Picture-in-Picture" option which means that we can play a video in full screen while having multiple windows displayed in smaller size and playing other videos in a simultaneous way. But it does not end there... what is even more interesting, we can handle them individually. Although this function has to be configured through a series of steps (which I'm going to tell you below), I can seriously state that every single minute we spend setting it up is really worthy, just take a look.
Setting The Picture-In-Picture Mode
The KMPlayer does not bring this function by default, but is something that can be done quickly and easily. The procedure is as follows:
As you can see it is not the big deal, but it really gives a tremendous functionality to this amazing media player. And the best about it is that this configuration will have to be done only once.
I must say that this free media player really surprised me, and leaving the technicalities aside, I would emphasize on The KMPlayer for its reliability, its versatility, its really good looking interface, fast loading and low resources consumption, subtitles and skin support... What else could I ask? I mean it, couldn't ask for more!!
