CCleaner is a freeware from Piriform Ltd. I find it a handy and comfortable tool that made my life easier in handling my system. It helped me to get rid of all crap found in my system that makes the system slower in no time. This software is one stop solution for me that will help me to clean up unwanted files and registry entries that often remain after every installation and installation process.
Job Profile of Cleaner
CCleaner quickly scans systems’ hard drive to search for all junk files that was rendering my system function slower and many times improper. The power of deleting cookies from hidden folders that I didn’t know is amazing. It serves me as an uninstallation program, a better solution for windows uninstaller to wash the tracks of old software. Thus it improves the over all performance of my system.
The most significant feature is it provides information about the installed operating system, size of the RAM, make of the system and frequency of the CPU of my PC.
Suit to my Style
The front view of CCleaner is excellent and is efficient in displaying the information in an organized way and is not hard to master. I found familiar myself with this tool. As soon as the program starts, there is a big button which says Run Cleaner. It is a very easy to use program and has no sophistication.
Secret Tracks Cleaner
CCleaner can washout my tracks from all major web browsers like: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari. The possibilities of removing tracks include Cache, History, Cookies, download history, typed URLs, Index.dat file, last download location and saved forms. I can also cleanout Windows explorer files like the recycle bin, Temporary files, Memory dumps, clipboard, Recent, Run, search MRUs and windows log files with just one click.
It has another feature called registry cleaner that I can use to clean and fix the registry of my system. Before cleaning the registry it gives me the option to backup the registry, I strongly recommend to do this as it would help if a significant registry entry has been deleted by accident.
The other handy utility that CCleaner offers me is that, it provides me much more convenient access to all installed programs list that are currently installed on my system. From here, I can run the uninstaller of any program to uninstall the program from my system. But the extra features of renaming or deleting the entry of installed programs are really very useful. I can also save my installed programs list as a text file so it will be very helpful for me if I plan to reinstall my windows operating system.
Clean Your Tracks Smartly
The Cleaner has two tabs, one for Windows and the other for applications installed on the system. It gives me full power to check or uncheck the options depending upon the information to be retained or cleared. It is not enough to clear all web tracks to prevent privacy exposure. Sometimes we also need to clear tracks from other installed programs history.
From Windows Tab scroll down menu, it provides me many options to select or deselect to remove particular tracks. Under the heading of Advanced I found some really advanced option to clear my tracks, which includes Menu Order Cache, Tray Notifications Cache, Windows Size/Location Cache, User Assist History, IIS log files, Hotfix installers and Custom Files & Folders and Wipe free Space. But checking of these is not recommended as it may lead to system failure. I did not try these fearing of system failure.
The Applications tab list all known and installed browsers to remove the crap from them. In addition to the browsers it also cleans crap from known applications like: Nero, Google Earth, Paint.Net, Office, and Adobe Acrobat, Window Media Player, Download Accelerator Plus, Quick time Player, Real Player and many more. In total it is used to clean Internet applications, Multimedia applications, utilities, office applications, windows applications etc.
After I checked what I needed to be cleared off from the system, I analyzed my selection by clicking Analyze button and CCleaner gave me information that it could free up to 280 MB. This is indeed great.
With the registry cleaning option I can scans the various parts of registry for junk entries in the registry like: File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, installers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help File references, Application Paths, fonts, help files, Invalid Shortcuts, MUI cache etc. and allows me to choose the elements to be cleaned. But we should be careful while cleaning the registry as there are chances of deleting essential registry entries.
Control the Auto Startup Programs
It allows me to choose the programs that have to be started after system boot up. I found that many unwanted programs were in the startup which delayed the loading each time I switched on the system. But now I can disable or delete them easily to increase the speed of loading.
Restore Checkpoints Eliminator
It is another way to free up large hard disk space. System restore checkpoints takes lots of hard disk space, and old restore points are normally not required, so by using CCleaner I can remove old restore points.
Options Menu allows to have personal settings. But the main thing is cookies manager that allow me to select the cookies that I want to keep. The most important preference available is that it allows selecting the security on the file deletion process. It can be proceeded with a single pass or DOD 55220.22-M method with 3 passes or Gutmann with 7 passes.
Finally, According to me CCleaner is one of the programs every PC user should try out not because it’s free but for the incredible job it does.
