Brothersoft Editor: Cu Chulainn (Cu Chulainn) was the son of Deichtine and the Sun god, Lugh Lamfada. Cu Chulainn was also grandson of the great druid Cathbad, and cousin of the sons of Uisnech and of Conall, who was also his foster-brother.

Cu Chulainn means the "hound of Cullan". As a child his name was "setanta" meaning ‘the little’. He became Cú Chulainn when he killed the watchdog of the smith Cullan, and so undertook to guard the smiths house in place of the dog. Cú Chulainn is one of the great Irish heroes. The most famous deeds of this hero are found in the saga Táin Bó Cualgne (the cattle raid of Cooley).
He was told, by a Seer, at a young age he would not live long.
Cu fought with such fury against The Battle hordes of Connaught that he had to be cooled off in tubs of cold water, as his glowing body would have singed his clothes. According to Celtic custom he went naked into battle. He was not hard hearted or unfair.
When his best friend Fer Diad, drunkenly challenged him to a battle he was of course slain Cu said, " All the fighting I have ever been involved in has been only a game or sport in comparison with my fight with Fer Diad.
When Etarmacol, a much inferior man, similarly pitted himself against Cu, he gave him endless chances to break off the hopeless encounter. He smote with his sword at Etarmacol's armpits so that the clothes fell from the body without the skin being touched, and said:" Now go". Etarmacol would not. Then Cu Chulainn swept his sword over his head and shaved off Etarmacol's hair, but when the churl went on whining, he lifted his sword above the skull and split him to the navel.
