After startup the client searches for a server at the given address and tries to Connect as a new user. If no server is found, ChitChat automatically offers to run in server mode. Afterwards it connects to itself in the background as client.
Technically interested? The server runs equivalent to the client as a separated thread. That's why client and server are only one executable.
